Dear readers,
We at TAGMO believe that PRIDE is in the everyday.
June is the most prominent time of year when restaurants, businesses, and all sorts of organizations deck out their windows and storefronts with flowing rainbow banners and flags, while corporations everywhere incorporate the signature PRIDE colors into their monochromatic logos – and then on July 1st, they are wiped clean without a trace. But, at TAGMO, we say, "Why would we ever want to go back to the way things were?"
At TAGMO we express our PRIDE not with rainbow flags and shallow corporate messaging for exactly 30 days, but with real, tangible acts of solidarity that last all year, every year.
The reorientation of TAGMO's goals to dedicate ourselves as a resource and space to support queer South Asian communities in the food space is informed by our incredibly queer Team TAGMO and our very own Queer Mithai Queen, Chef Surbhi Sahni!
While it's hard enough to navigate authentic queerness in this world of rainbow capitalism and pinkwashing, it's even more difficult to find real spaces of queer acceptance that celebrate South Asian identities and heritage. As Surbhi recalls from her experience coming out late in life and being in NYC, there was a distinct feeling of being "on the outside looking in." At TAGMO, we want to actively push back against this feeling and cultivate spaces of belonging for our fellow queer South Asians.
So join us on our journey to making our queer dreams for TAGMO come true!
Our PRIDE collaboration is here!
We've got all sorts of delicious treats in this box like rose coconut burfi, lavender burfi, kaju katli, and thandai burfi – but the yummiest part is that 10% of the proceeds go to our amazing partners, Desi Rainbow Parents and Allies! Check out our exclusive interview with the founder Aruna Rao about what this collaboration means to her!
